It is a simple cross of CAT5 cable spliced together to permit in-line monitoring of Ethernet connections. These goals were achieved.Tuesday morning we established our battle plan for the day, and it centered around sculpting the main body of the beast. The largest spade bit I have found is 1.5 inches. Our ice had several large cracks (and the heat of the giant chansaw produced an additional one), but we've managed to work around them well. I thought it would be a good idea to make the working surface as smooth as possible, so I tried sanding it.  No dice!  One of the properties of UHMW that makes it attractive for its many uses is extreme abrasion resistance - it out-wears steel 10 to 1! At Belfair I spent the better part of two days making the large gear cutter and an axle guide prior to the start of the event.  The structures were made primarily of balsa wood, fragile but lightweight enough to allow for gradual, gravity powered gear cutting without bending the resistance wire. We turned the crank, the hammer hit the chime, and nothing broke! The giant chainsaw has been working very well for slab cutting. We've cut full slabs from two inches to six inches thick, and not a single slab has broken. The only improvement we can envision would be some kind of guide to keep our cuts straight.
